Our basic home STI/STD test detects chlamydia and gonorrhoea, the two commonest infections. The test is most accurate from 2 weeks after exposure to the infection. The test requires a urine sample for men and a self-taken vaginal swab for women.

Who should have the basic home screen?

This basic  STI / STD screen  is suitable for anyone who has had recent unprotected sex, or would simply like a basic check-up. Chlamydia and gonorrhoea are the two commonest sexually transmitted infections. Both infections may not cause symptoms and can lead to complications if left untreated. Both infections can be treated effectively with antibiotics.

The service is completely confidential and your results are not shared with anyone, including your own GP. Your test kit will arrive in unmarked packaging. We are a general medical clinic and people order a variety of postal kits from us, so all emails you receive will appear like our standard medical correspondence.

If I’ve had unprotected sex, how soon should I have my test?2020-12-23T17:41:02+00:00

The urine or swab test for chlamydia and gonorrhoea (plus any other tests that are included) are accurate if done 2 weeks after a potential exposure. You can still have the tests earlier than these timeframes, but if they come back as negative it would be advisable to repeat them at the appropriate time interval.

Our turnaround time for results is within 7 days, but most patients receive their results sooner. Once you have received your swab test kit, please try to post the completed sample back to us as soon as possible. The kits take 2 working days to get back to the lab. Once received by the lab, the sample is usually processes in another 2 working days.

Tests kits are dispatched same by Royal Mail Special Delivery, for all orders completed by 1pm, Monday to Friday. Therefore if you completed your online purchase before 1pm, you should receive your kit the next working day. Orders completed after 1pm Monday to Friday or on weekends, are dispatched the next working day.

Yes. All kits are sent by Royal Mail Special Delivery, in plain packaging. There is absolutely no way of telling what is inside the package or who the sender is.

Is it easy to do the test your self?2020-12-23T17:40:31+00:00

Yes. Easy to follow instructions are in enclosed with the kit.

Men are required to provide a urine sample. The test needs a “first catch” sample (i.e. the first bit of urine that comes out). Male patients MUST NOT PASS URINE for 2 HOURS before producing the sample.

Women are required to provide a self taken low vaginal swab.

The test is a PCR test that looks for the DNA of the various organisms. It is the gold standard for sexual health testing. As long as you follow the instructions when producing your sample, the results should be completely accurate.

We can provide treatment for common STIs like chlamydia and herpes. Some rarer STIs need an antibiotic injection and specialist input, so if we identify one of these we would help direct you to the most appropriate service. If you need treatment, you can arrange this by booking a face to face or remote appointment via our website.
