People flying to Qatar must have their fit to fly Covid test to be carried out by The Wellington Hospital or The Cromwell. We are not an authorised testing centre for Qatar.

Apart from The Montague Clinic and the laboratory, positive results are shared with Public Health England to contribute to national data as well as Test and Trace.

Your travel certificate is a signed statement of when you had your RT-PCR test and the result. Its validity does not expire but most airlines and destinations require you to have your test taken within a specific timeframe. Therefore, you should ensure that your test is taken according to the entry requirements of your destination. Visit HERE for more information. 


How do I book a Covid-19 test for more than one person?2021-05-04T07:36:29+01:00

Please change the quantity to the number of tests you require. Please note that a maximum of 12 testing kits can be purchased within one order.

You must check the most up to date guidance regarding the country you are travelling to and book your test within the appropriate timeframe for your destination. The Montague Clinic will not accept any liability or associated costs if you book your test outside the timeframe for your destination.

What information will be included on my travel certificate?2021-05-04T07:35:06+01:00

You travel certificate will include the following information:

  • Your personal details (name, date of birth)
  • Your passport or national ID number (only if you upload this when you register your kit online)
  • The date and time of your Covid-19 test
  • The laboratory details
  • Confirmation that you had a RT-PCR Covid Test
  • Confirmation that your test was analysed in a UKAS accredited laboratory
Can I transfer my Fit to Fly kit to someone else?2021-05-04T07:33:37+01:00

Yes – our Fit to Fly kits are transferable! Passenger details need to be registered via an online portal when you take your sample. Please note that this is different to our UK arrival test kits which are non-transferrable.

Can I have a refund if I no longer require the test?2021-05-04T07:30:04+01:00

We understand that during the pandemic, travel plans can change. We are happy to offer you a refund if your test kits are unopened and received by us. There is a one-off administration fee of £30 for this (regardless of number of kits purchased). Refunds are made once we receive back your unused test kits. Please email us at info@montagueclinic.com if you require a refund with your order reference number.

If you are returning your completed sample using the UK wide DX Sample Drop service, then you can change the day you do your test. Please be aware that the next day result service is only available if you drop your completed sample off between Monday and Friday.

DX Sample Drop:

If you drop off your sample to a DX Sample drop location within opening hours Monday to Friday, you can expect your result by midnight the following day. See HERE for opening times of your closest drop off point

If samples are dropped off after closing time on Friday or over the weekend, you can expect your result to arrive by midnight on the following Tuesday. 

London Express Service:

You can expect your result by midnight the same day of your test.

Your Covid-19 antibody blood test result will be emailed to you within 24 hours.

We’ll email your Covid-19 swab result within 24-48 hours of the sample arriving back at the laboratory. 

What type of Covid-19 test am I getting?2020-12-23T17:40:01+01:00

We use the largest private UKAS registered laboratory in London. Our Abbott Covid-19 Antibody Test is one of only two approved tests by Public Health England.

Does the home STI test kit include a follow-up appointment?2020-12-23T17:40:14+01:00

Follow-up appointments as not included with our home STI test kits. If you would like to speak to us following your results, you can book a face to face or remote appointment via our website.

We can provide treatment for common STIs like chlamydia and herpes. Some rarer STIs need an antibiotic injection and specialist input, so if we identify one of these we would help direct you to the most appropriate service. If you need treatment, you can arrange this by booking a face to face or remote appointment via our website.

How accurate are the postal tests?2020-12-23T17:40:25+01:00

The test is a PCR test that looks for the DNA of the various organisms. It is the gold standard for sexual health testing. As long as you follow the instructions when producing your sample, the results should be completely accurate.

Is it easy to do the test your self?2020-12-23T17:40:31+01:00

Yes. Easy to follow instructions are in enclosed with the kit.

Men are required to provide a urine sample. The test needs a “first catch” sample (i.e. the first bit of urine that comes out). Male patients MUST NOT PASS URINE for 2 HOURS before producing the sample.

Women are required to provide a self taken low vaginal swab.

Does the kit arrive in discrete packaging?2020-12-23T17:40:37+01:00

Yes. All kits are sent by Royal Mail Special Delivery, in plain packaging. There is absolutely no way of telling what is inside the package or who the sender is.

When will I received my kit?2020-12-23T17:40:47+01:00

Tests kits are dispatched same by Royal Mail Special Delivery, for all orders completed by 1pm, Monday to Friday. Therefore if you completed your online purchase before 1pm, you should receive your kit the next working day. Orders completed after 1pm Monday to Friday or on weekends, are dispatched the next working day.

As soon as your results are ready, we will send them to you via secure email.

How fast will I get my results?2020-12-23T17:40:56+01:00

Our turnaround time for results is within 7 days, but most patients receive their results sooner. Once you have received your swab test kit, please try to post the completed sample back to us as soon as possible. The kits take 2 working days to get back to the lab. Once received by the lab, the sample is usually processes in another 2 working days.

If I’ve had unprotected sex, how soon should I have my test?2020-12-23T17:41:02+01:00

The urine or swab test for chlamydia and gonorrhoea (plus any other tests that are included) are accurate if done 2 weeks after a potential exposure. You can still have the tests earlier than these timeframes, but if they come back as negative it would be advisable to repeat them at the appropriate time interval.

The service is completely confidential and your results are not shared with anyone, including your own GP. Your test kit will arrive in unmarked packaging. We are a general medical clinic and people order a variety of postal kits from us, so all emails you receive will appear like our standard medical correspondence.

If we are able to treat your STI with tablets, then providing this aftercare is included in your price. Some rarer STIs need special treatment with antibiotic injections so if we identify one of these, we’ll help you access this treatment from an appropriate service.

This depends on what type of tests you need. The vast majority of tests come back within 2 days but there is a fast track option for the common tests which can come back the same day. More unusual tests such as herpes swabs can take up to 7 days for results to come back. 

How will my tests be done?2020-12-23T17:41:41+01:00

Basic female sexual health tests involve a self taken vaginal swab, and for males it’s a urine test. Males should not pass urine for two hours prior to their appointment.  

Can I decide which tests I want at my appointment?2020-12-23T17:41:46+01:00

This is the best approach. The doctor will help you to assess your risk of STIs and guide you about which tests to consider. 

Am I able to have a chaperone?2020-12-23T17:41:51+01:00

Yes. We have a nursing team that is always available to chaperone. 

Can I choose to see a male or female doctor?2020-12-23T17:41:58+01:00

Both of the founding GPs at The Montague Clinic are male so at present we are unable to offer a consultation with a female GP. If you require a genital examination, one of our nursing team would be available to chaperone if you wish. Please note that currently, the best way for females to provide a sample is a ‘self-swab’. The pick up rate is better with this method compared to when a clinician takes a swab (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5999261/). 

If I’ve had unprotected sex, how soon should I have my test?2020-11-03T21:53:00+01:00

Urine and swab tests for chlamydia and gonorrhoea are most accurate if done 2 weeks after a potential exposure. Blood tests for HIV and syphilis are accurate from 4 weeks after exposure (although there is a specialist early detection test for HIV that is accurate after 10 days.) 

You can still have the tests earlier than these timeframes, but if they come back as negative it would be advisable to repeat them at the appropriate time interval.

The service is completely confidential and your results are not shared with anyone including your own GP. Most of our patients come to see us for general medical problems and so nobody apart from the doctor will know you are coming for a sexual health issue. All appointment reminders and payment references will appear like our general medical GP consultations.

Each appointment is 20 minutes long. If you have complex or multiple issues, it is advisable to book a double appointment (£100).

The cost of private prescriptions and referral letters are included within the price of your consultation.

What should I do when I arrive at the clinic?2020-12-23T17:42:35+01:00

If it is your first appointment with us, then please aim to arrive 15 minutes early to complete a health questionnaire.

Let the receptionist at 4 Basinghall St know that you have arrived. Take a seat in the waiting area and the doctor will call you in. Please help yourself to tea and coffee from the kitchen.

Doctors at The Montague Clinic are experienced in managing any issue for which you would normally see a GP. Our doctors are also able to take blood tests, complete medical reports, and refer for imaging and specialist care.

Unfortunately, our doctors are not able to see children at The Montague Clinic.

Yes. Our doctors work closely with London’s top specialist and are happy to refer you on you private medical insurance.

Our standard appointments are 20 minutes. Appointments for health checks are 40 minutes with 20 minute follow-up.

Appointments generally for 1 problem, however this is at the discretion of the doctor, and we are happy to address more concerns if safe and reasonable within the timeframe. Double appointments may be required for multiple problems.

Appointments can be cancelled up to 24 hours before for free. Cancellations within 6 to 24 hours will be refunded 50%. Cancellations within 6 hours are not refundable.

At your request we will be happy to email you your clinical notes for you to share with your NHS GP.

The Montague Clinic is a group of independent medical practitioners, with a mission to provide high quality care in the City.

Payment are usually taken at the end of the consultation. We accept all major credit cards including VISA, MasterCard and American Express. We also accept Apple Pay & Android Pay. We are unable to take cash payments during the Covid pandemic. 

Can I use my health insurance to pay for my consultation?2020-12-23T17:43:34+01:00

Unfortunately, at this point in time, we are unable to accept payment from health insurance for GP consultations.

Do you do investigations on site or do I need to attend another centre?2020-12-23T17:43:39+01:00

Where possible, tests will be carried out onsite including bloods tests and swabs. We also have onsite X-ray and MRI facilities. Tests requiring specialist equipment will be performed at an appropriate centre, depending on the test.

No. Prices of lab tests, scans & other investigations are not included in our Standard GP Appointment fee. The doctor will be able to counsel you regarding the most appropriate investigation options.

Is the price of a prescription or referral letter included in the consultation fee?2020-12-23T17:43:49+01:00

Yes. We do not charge extra for prescriptions and referral letters issued during your consultation. Please note however that the pharmacy will charge you for the cost of your medication.

How will I receive the results of any tests/investigations?2020-12-23T17:43:54+01:00

You can choose how you wish to receive your test results. All communication is confidential. Options include text, email and telephone calls.

If I need to be referred to a specialist, can I choose whom I see?2020-12-23T17:43:59+01:00

We offer a choice of provider for onward specialist referral. If you have medical insurance we can refer to any specialist or hospital registered with your insurer.

Where can I take my private prescription to get my medication?2020-12-23T17:44:04+01:00

You can take your private prescription to any high street pharmacy. We also work with a pharmacy delivery service, who deliver your medication to your office or home, Monday to Friday.

Our doctors are currently unable to offer the following services:

  • Medical care to patients under 18 years of age
  • Immunisations
  • Travel vaccinations
  • Smear tests
  • Cosmetic procedures (e.g. botox & fillers)
  • Minor surgical procedures

  • Ear syringing
  • Wound care
  • Baby immunisations

We do not prescribe controlled medications such as morphine, tramadol, pethidine, methylphenidate and oxycodone.

We can complete a wide range of medical reports, however some reports do need us to have access to you full medical record. Please send us a copy of your report by uploading it through our Medical Reports webpage – CLICK HERE.
